January 2nd 2023. Bridgestone Arena. Nashville, Tennessee. Monday Night RAW. The Ladies returned to the city where Damage CTRL was born. Bayley came to the ring with WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai and IYO SKY to remind the world. For some reason they came out for a team segment to Bayley's theme and titantron instead of Damage CTRL. No doubt a hiccup from the technical folks still recovering from the holidays. Anyway... The Role Model also reminded everyone that she defeated Becky Lynch on her own two weeks ago. She's correct. Dakota and IYO didn't put a hand on Lynch, en route to the backstage area after being ejected for merely showing concern for their friend Bayley. Becky came out to object to what was said.
Last month, Becky tried to sew the seeds of dissension, pointing out Dakota and IYO have gold but Bayley doesn't. Once again, Bitter Time Becks (who was unsuccessful last year in recapturing gold herself) tried to further stir seeds of dissension, stressing that Bayley took years to get out of the shadow (of Sasha Banks) only a year later to end up back in the shadow of SKY and Kai. Becky accused her of being the lackey of Kai and SKY who do all the hard work while The Role Model takes all the glory. The man said it's just a matter of time before someone turns on someone.
I can only recall Bayley showering Dakota and IYO with praise and encouragement. Look, I think it's obvious Becky is a Dakota and IYO fangirl. She's jealous Bayley gets to hang out with them and not her. So, she takes it out on Bayley. Becky wanted to end this in Nashville where it began but Bayley already defeated The Man. So, Bayley decided to grant Becky a close and personal audience with her girls. The Role Model even invited her to bring a tag team partner. Becky decided just to do it one on two.
Lynch dominated in the early going but The Ladies are fighters so kept on fighting. The tide turned in Damage CTRL's favor when Becky took a moment to fangirl over IYO, getting smashed with a Kaio-Kick from Our Captain. Damage CTRL remained in full control until the match became a tag team match (playa) with Michin coming down to lend Becky a hand. Lynch didn't object, suggesting she needed her own lackey to do her hard work. Ah-fucking-ha! The action went back and forth with Kai and SKY getting in their impressive double team sequence of sweeps and kicks. At one point, Kai sacrificed her own well-being pushing SKY out of the way of a flying fist off the apron from Lynch.
The tide turned in favor of Becky and Michin when Michin kicked IYO into Kai who was holding the tag rope and tagged herself in. The impact of the collision knocked Kai off the apron. Michin tagged in Becky only for Lynch to feel Kai's hand wrapped around her leg. What started as a masterful stroke from The Ladies resulted in Lynch kicking Dakota off her and crashing down on her throat with an apron legdrop. Becky violently beat Kai to a pulp around ringside for a bit before tagging Michin in. Michin covered Kai after a double superplex but IYO saved the match for her team.
Michin hit a shotgun dropkick on IYO and went after Dakota who was seeking a moment of respite on the apron. Kai cut Michin off, snapping her neck over the top rope. Michin shot back, dropping Kai over the ropes and head spiked to the canvas with a shotgun hurracarrana. Michin covered Dakota whose foot happened upon the bottom rope thanks to the assist of Bayley. Remember that Becky originally accepted a handicapped match. Bayley's assist made it two on three so Becky only got what she wanted thanks to Bayley's selflessness. Becky repaid Bayley by attacking her.
IYO tagged herself into the match. Dakota took a sacrificial Eat Defeat from Michin only for SKY to come crashing down on Michin from above with Over the Moonsault. SKY covered Michin to score the pinfall victory for Damage CTRL. Becky's attempt to sew dissension between The Ladies backfired big time. Dakota endured a lot of punishment and made sacrifices for the greater good of Damage CTRL. IYO and Bayley are proud of their girl. The Ladies proved they are stronger together. The Year of The Captain 2023 started on a positive note. The King conquered The Man. The Genius outbaddied The HBIC. Damage CTRL still on top. Then. Now. Forever. Together.
