Evie's first tour of North America in April 2013 saw her compete at three events for Shimmer and one event for its sister promotion Shine. She came into Shine 9 with a record of 1-2 hoping to end her first tour of North America tied at 2-2. To return home to Auckland with such a record she would have to defeat Mercedes Martinez who was a veteran of the ring. The Florida wrestling crowd got their first live look at Charlie Wrestling, welcoming her with applause and at least one Team Kick sign. Evie had come to the states with much fanfare behind her and didn't disappoint.
Ring announcer, the late great Daphne, introduced Evie at 5'5 inches tall but quickly corrected herself -- 165 centimeters because she's from Auckland, New Zealand. Evie placed her hand above her head and stood tall and proud, revealing she's actually a skyscraper who towers wrestling giants past and present. Don't let that invisible petite mirage cloak she wears fool you.
Mercedes dominated in the early going, overpowering Evie and taunting her. Evie countered her opponent's headlock with a headscissors only for Mercedes to nimble free and slap her across the face. Mercedes didn't stop there, unleashing a succession of chops and palm strikes, driving Evie into the corner where the attack continued with forearm shots. Evie leaped over Mercedes off a whip to the opposite corner looking for a monkey flip but instead got sat on the top rope. Evie kicked Mercedes away and flew off the top rope hitting a crossbody.
Evie went on the offensive, sending Mercedes to the floor after two clotheslines and a dropkick. She looked to follow up with a running PK from the apron only for Mercedes to catch her foot and sweep her face first. Evie not only hit the apron hard, the impact splat her back first on the wooden floor. Mercedes put her back in the ring and delightfully took control with ground and pound strikes and chokes. She followed that with a delayed vertical suplex holding Evie up for around fifteen seconds. Mercedes went for a cover but Evie kicked out.
Mercedes went back to chops followed by a double underhook suplex turned into a submission hold. Evie briefly took control of the match, sending Mercedes into the turnbuckles with a drop toe hold. She brought Mercedes to the canvas with a monkey flip followed by a snapmare. Evie ran the ropes and struck Mercedes down with a kick to the chest. Mercedes caught Evie on her next charge, dropping her on the back of her head with a wheelbarrow German suplex. The high impact continued with Mercedes planting Evie with a spinebuster.
Evie slipped off Mercedes shoulder as she attempted a lawn dart. Mercedes backdropped Evie to the apron as she made a charge but the Kiwi hung on, climbing to the top rope and grounding her opponent with a missile dropkick. Evie followed that up with a snap-of-a-kick to the back and cover for a two count. Mercedes caught Evie with another spinebuster to regain control.
Unable to keep Evie down for the three on a cover, Mercedes climbed to the second rope to switch up her offense. But Evie cut her off, striking her in the chin with a big boot followed by a top rope huracarrana that spiked Mercedes to the canvas. The impact kept both women down for a bit. Mercedes rolled to the floor with Evie stalking her from the apron. Evie went for the running PK and connected this time. Evie rolled Mercedes into the ring and went for a cover, only getting a two count.
Mercedes' head was smashed into the top turnbuckle before Evie hurried to the opposite corner, charging back to lop her opponent with the Yakuza kick. But Mercedes moved out of the way. Evie's foot was caught on the top rope, freed only when Mercedes dropped her to the canvas with a Saito suplex. The end was nigh as Mercedes executed the fisherman buster and pinned Evie.
Evie would return home from her first tour of North America with only one win, however her time in Shimmer and Shine was an invaluable learning tree. Her popularity grew and she got to accomplish her goal of working in Shimmer. Evie would have a notable twelve months to come not only back home for the remainder of 2013 but on her first tour of Japan in early 2014.
