Evie vs. Hikaru Shida at Shimmer Volume 62

Hikaru Shida and Evie (as Dakota Kai) would become staples on their respective Wednesday night wrestling television shows. Years prior to that, their first and only match so far took place in April 2014 during WrestleMania 30 Weekend as part of Shimmer Volume 62. Evie had just arrived in the United States a few days before, coming off a several month tour of Japan.

Ring announcer, the late great Daphne, shared a quiet little moment with Evie prior to the introductions. Shida and Evie shook hands after the opening bell. During the feel out opening minutes, Shida applied a full nelson that Evie countered into one of her own. But before long Shida reversed it into a wristlock. Evie countered into a wrist lock of her own in acrobatic fashion. Both women ducked kicks and Evie a knee strike. It was the proverbial stalemate.

Shida and Evie shared good natured smiles out of respect. But after that things got more tense as they traded forearm strikes that got more aggressive. Evie armdragged Shida after a series of evades and followed it up with a snap-of-a-kick to the back. That was followed by a snapmare and another kick to the back. Evie called out it was just the first and followed with an even more aggressive kick to Shida's back. She followed that up with a running kick to the chest sending Shida to the canvas.

Evie stayed in control hitting a corner clothesline, succession of foot rakes to the face and her signature running face wash. She covered Shida for the pin but she kicked out. Shida got Irish whipped to the ropes but hung on. Evie quickly struck her with a big boot, sending her to the floor. Evie tried the running PK from the apron, only for Shida to grab her leg and sweep her back first to the apron. Shida followed up with a running knee lift to Evie's head draped across the edge of the ring.

Back in the ring, Shida delivered two running knee strikes after Irish whipping Evie to the corner. She teased applying a crab only to instead send Evie for a dizzy ride with a big swing. Evie fought back striking Shida with a couple hard kicks to the chest. Shida countered the third, lifting Evie up onto her shoulders and delivering a backbreaker across the knee.

Shida applied a crab. Evie inched close to the ropes for the break, however Shida drug Evie to the center of the ring making the transition into a half crab with more pressure. This time Evie successfully reached the ropes to force the break. Shida delivered a vertical suplex and attempted a running knee strike. Evie evaded it and rolled Shida up for a two count. She changed to an aerial approach, flying off the top rope striking Shida down with a missile dropkick.

After both women got to their feet, Shida charged Evie who grabbed her and delivered a uranage backbreaker. Evie connected with two of her signature charging Yakuza kicks in the corner, however Shida kicked out of the pin attempt. Evie climbed to the top to deliver Coup-de-Evie only for Shida to meet her on the ropes. Shida delivered a few strikes, knocking Evie to the apron. She proceeded to dead lift suplex Evie back into the ring.

The two warriors returned to trading forearm shots. After delivering a succession, Shida charged at Evie only to be superkicked to the canvas. Evie managed a deep cover with the pin attempt but Shida kicked out. Shida caught Evie with an enziguri followed by a falcon arrow. Shida covered Evie with her signature pinning position, assured of victory even counting along with the referee. But Evie kicked out. Shida quickly reacted, striking Evie down with the Tamashi to score a pinfall victory.

Evie and Shida showed each other a healthy amount of respect after the match. The crowd gave them a well-earned round of applause.
