Evie vs. Kay Lee Ray at Shimmer Volume 67

Our Captain and Kay Lee Ray have been fighting forever. Most recently (as of this writing) they battled in a ladder match and tag team tournament finals. Our Captain's NXT record against KLR was a string of loses except for a WarGames match her team won that she never technically entered into. They share a love for the threshold of pain. Even as rivals there is a healthy respect akin to Mick Foley and Terry Funk. Did our Captain fare better against her Forever Rival in this face versus face match from Shimmer Volume 67?

They started out trading wristlocks and leg sweeps to reach a stalemate. KLR wanted a test of strength, however Evie brushed away after KLR squeezed her injured finger. Evie was enticed into a finger lockup where she managed to overpower KLR to the mat after a tussle. KLR tried to bridge out only for Evie to sweep her to the mat. Evie tried another sweep as KLR charged but KLR hopped over her followed by a reverse leapfrog. The two traded armdrags and dropkicks until KLR avoided the second dropkick.

Evie escaped a front chancery only for KLR to lariat her back to the mat. KLR lifted Evie up for the KLR Bomb but Evie countered with a sunset flip pin attempt. KLR pushed off and avoided Evie's charging Yakuza kick. Evie's head was nearly cracked open like a nut by KLR's corner enziguri. KLR followed that up with a springboard missile dropkick.

KLR turned Evie over into a deathlock submission hold. Evie cried out in pain trying to fight her way free. KLR decided to break the hold. Evie tried to regain control from the apron with a sunset flip into the ring, however KLR caught her with a northern lights suplex. KLR attempted a tope with Evie on the floor but Evie cut her off with an enziguri. Evie scored with a PK from the apron as KLR got to her feet. Back in the ring, Evie delivered a snapmare and kick to the back but couldn't keep KLR down for the three.

Evie caught KLR with a uranage backbreaker hoping to snuff out her Alba fire. But KLR kicked out again. Evie charged KLR in the corner; her head got caught in KLR's headscissors effort. That effort by KLR failed as Evie gained the upper hand landing a sitdown powerbomb. Knowing she would have to dig deep into her arsenal to defeat KLR, Evie applied a reverse crab changed up into a version of the STF. KLR's arm would not go down at three but before she could escape with her momentum, Evie slammed her face first to the mat.

KLR caught Evie with an inside cradle for two. She went to another corner to charge Evie who swiftly cut her off with the running Yakuza kick. KLR bounced back as swift with an enziguri. After the two blocked each others' strikes, KLR gained control and delivered a suplex into a cutter. Even that couldn't keep Evie down. KLR tried to execute the KLR Bomb to no avail. She caught Evie with a wheelbarrow, however Evie rolled through planting KLR face first to the mat nearly knocking her eyeballs out of their sockets. KLR kicked out so the war pressed on.

Evie lifted KLR up for TTYL only for KLR to counter into the KLR Bomb planting Evie face first to the mat. KLR got a deep cover but Evie kicked out just before the three. KLR ascended for the swanton bomb, however Evie hung her out to dry with the running Yakuza kick. Evie lifted KLR's prone body off the rope onto her shoulders and executed TTYL. KLR was so stunned she stood still as an iceberg for a moment before crashing to the mat. Evie was finally able to keep KLR down for the three count and victory.

The beloved Evie did not celebrate her hard-earned victory. Instead she helped KLR to her feet, raising her hand and embracing her to acknowledge KLR's equally hard-fought effort. Before Evie made her way to the back, she stopped to acknowledge and fangirl over a creative banner that a group of regulars made for her that often appeared at Shimmer shows she worked. Our Captain is the best to her fans.
