Evie had defeated Kay Lee Ray earlier in the day at Shimmer Volume 67. Her opponent that evening at Shimmer Volume 68 was Mia Yim whom she lost to the previous year. If Evie could defeat two veterans of the ring in the same day, she would prove she belonged in Shimmer and earn her way to championship contention. But for Mia a win over Evie was crucial after a loss to Shimmer Champion Cheerleader Melissa at Shimmer 65 earlier that month. Evie and Mia Yim respected each other but shared the same competitive spirit. They would not hold back.

The Captain of Team Kick offered up a handshake to begin. But her fellow lover of kicks didn't want to do it that way. So they did it the proper way: They shook feet. In the early going Evie and Mia exchanged holds jockeying for control. Mia won the opening salvo, taking Evie down with a drop toe hold right into a front headlock. Evie twisted her way out, dropping Mia with a snapmare followed by a kick to the back. The two exchanged armdrags and evasions as they again fought for control. Mia was one step ahead, causing Evie to fall to the floor.

Mia struck Evie back to the floor with a running PK from the apron as she got to her feet. Back in the ring, Mia wore Evie down with a chinlock and surfboard stretch. She switched over to a bow and arrow that Evie smartly turned into a cover for two. Mia returned to her submission game, applying a camel clutch very briefly. She broke the hold, kicked Evie's back and applied a half crab in the middle of the ring that she transitioned into a full crab. Evie fought her way to the ropes to force a break. She hoped to rally back but Mia caught her in a rope-hung crab.

Evie got to her feet after Mia broke the hold before the five count. Mia kept at it, nailing Evie with a missile dropkick from the second rope. Yim looked for a package piledriver but Evie wiggled free and delivered a roundhouse kick to the head. Mia kicked out of the pin attempt. Evie delivered another snapmare, this time followed by two kicks to the back and a running kick to the chest followed by a cover. Once again Yim kicked out at two. Evie kept up with her striking offense, bringing her foot down hard on Mia's back with a snap-of-a-kick.

Mia caught herself in the ropes during a whip attempt but was prone to a dropkick sending her to the floor. Evie went for a running PK from the apron but Mia ducked it only to be struck down by Evie's immediate retry. Back in the ring, Evie went to one of her favorite combos in the boot scrapes to the face followed by the running face wash. Evie jackknife covered Mia who kicked out at two.

Evie whipped Mia to the corner but Yim rolled out of the way to evade her charging Yakuza kick. Although Evie was able to untrap her foot from the top rope, she immediately felt Mia's in her face courtesy of a big boot. The impact of the blow knocked both to the canvas. The two exchanged forearm shots as they got to their feet. They changed to kicks. Mia ducked one aimed at her head, rebounding with a backhand followed by an insane German suplex.

Mia went for a scissors kick but Evie evaded, grabbing Yim and planting her with a uranage backbreaker. Evie went for another kick after a failed pin attempt but Mia caught her with a sitdown powerbomb into a cover for a two. Mia set Evie up for another attempt at the package piledriver only for Evie to evade by backdropping Mia over her head. Mia stumbled into the corner giving Evie the perfect chance to go for the victory. Evie charged around the ring nailing Mia in the face with the Yakuza kick. But Mia was able to kick out of the pin attempt.

Evie lifted Mia up for TTYL but Yim countered it into a sunset flip for a two count. Mia kicked her opponent in the gut and lifted her up for the package piledriver. Evie wiggled her way free and delivered a blow to the gut, easing Mia for a second, successful execution of TTYL. The nearly fourteen minute battle was over with Evie scoring the pinfall victory. Evie had proven she belonged in Shimmer and earned herself a Shimmer Championship Match at the next volume.

Showing respect to her fellow warrior, Evie extended her hand to Mia helping her to her feet and into an embrace. Mia raised Evie's hand before taking her leave. Competitors when facing each other in the ring who would become good friends outside it. This was truly the BREginning of something special.
