Team Slap Happy had won the Shimmer Tag Team Championship in June and quite literally survived their first title defense later the same day. Four months had passed and Evie's focus had shifted to her war with Kellyanne back home in Melbourne City Wrestling. Evie was set to face Kellyanne in a Last Woman Standing Match in December, however for the time being she would have to shift her focus back to defending the Shimmer tag team titles alongside Heidi Lovelace. Our Captain came to Chicago for what would be to date her final set of matches in Shimmer.
Evie and Heidi had quite the challenge in their first match together in four months. Their opponents were no strangers to them: Kay Lee Ray and Mia Yim collectively known as Fly High WDSS or WDSS Flying High. Mia and KLR had been one of the three teams they fought in the four corner elimination match where they won the titles. Evie had defeated both KLR and Yim at consecutive Shimmer events back in 2015 while in 2014, Heidi lost to Mia at Absolute Intense Wrestling's Girls Night Out 13.
Shimmer Volume 86 would play host to this All-Star match between two teams comprised of four of the best wrestlers on the independent scene at that time. And without argument still four of the best in the current era of wrestling. Both teams showed each other respect prior to the opening bell with handshakes. Heidi and KLR would start for their respective teams, jockeying for control with an exciting display of technical wrestling. Heidi brought that to a halt, kicking her foot up in KLR's face to escape a wristlock. KLR fired back with an enzuigiri knocking Heidi loopy.
Heidi had no choice but to tag in Evie so she could recoup on the apron. KLR decided to tag in Mia. Evie and Mia exchanged evasions in a fast paced display. Mia charged at Evie who slipped to the apron with Yim in pursuit. Evie received three hard kicks to the chest after which Mia pushed her back into the ring. Mia unleashed a fury of strikes and kicks culminating with a knee lift to the jaw and pelee kick. Yim tried to follow her offense up with a lionsault only to crash when Evie moved out of the way.
Evie took control, delivering boot scrapes to the face in the corner followed by the running face wash. Heidi tagged in and went for the cover but only got a two count. She switched things up, applying a deep camel clutch. Mia forced the break by grabbing the ropes. Heidi continued to control the match for her team, suplexing Mia but only getting one on the cover. Evie was tagged in and they double teamed Mia with kicks to the front and back followed by running kicks to the same. Evie would continue the attack with a snap-of-a-kick to Mia's back.
Mia was whipped to the ropes with KLR blind tagging herself in. Yim ducked a clothesline from Evie and pushed her over to KLR who cracked her over the head with an enzuigiri from the apron. Mia lifted KLR onto her shoulders, launching her at Evie with a missile dropkick. Evie rolled over to her corner and tagged Heidi back in. Heidi smacked KLR with a headbutt only for KLR to rebound with a superkick. Heidi retaliated planting KLR with an STO before climbing to the second rope.
KLR cut Heidi off at the rope, sweeping her to the canvas with the back-of-her-skull hitting the turnbuckle on the way down and her face smashing the mat upon landing. Mia and KLR tagged in and out, taking turns lighting Heidi up with strikes. Heidi tried to mount a comeback only for KLR to canvas it with a lariat. Mia tagged in to continue the attack with a gutwrench suplex and scissors kick. Heidi elbowed her way out of a chinlock only to get canvassed by a big boot. KLR tagged in and fired off two open palm strikes and a whip to the corner followed by a third strike.
Heidi fought back, evading an attempt at a springboard move by KLR before knocking Mia off the apron to prevent a tag. She took KLR down with an enzuigiri and rolled over to her corner to tag Evie in. Evie was a house of fire, laying in an assortment of kicks including the scorpion. KLR crashed in the corner soon feeling Evie's charging Yakuza kick. Evie went for the cover but KLR kicked out at two. KLR hit an enzuigiri out of nowhere followed by the KLR Bomb but Heidi prevented a pin attempt, smashing KLR's face to the mat with the Heidi-Can-Rana.
Mia came in and grounded Heidi with a running PK. Evie nearly decapitated Mia with a roundhouse kick to the head. Heidi pulled Mia toward their corner and climbed to the top, flying down with a senton bomb but Mia rolled out of the way. KLR immediately came down on Heidi, hitting her with a swanton bomb. Evie kicked KLR off Heidi only to receive a backdrop driver from Mia. KLR lifted Evie up for another KLR Bomb; this time for a KLR Bomb and pedigree double team. Heidi made the desperate save and Evie sunset flipped KLR for a two count.
Heidi caught KLR's foot on a kick attempt and smacked her with a superkick right into Evie's uranage backbreaker. Mia dived into the pinfall attempt breaking it up at the last second. Yim ducked a double clothesline and slid to the apron. KLR flew off the top and missile dropkicked both Evie and Heidi to the canvas. KLR held Heidi down so Mia could use Heidi and herself to launch high in the air and pump kick Evie in the corner. Mia tossed Heidi to the floor and KLR covered Evie but only got two. Outside the ring, Heidi whipped Mia hard into the ring post.
Evie waffled KLR with a roundhouse to the head only to receive a superkick that sent her to the canvas. KLR climbed to the top for another swanton bomb but was cut off by a charging Yakuza kick from Evie in a most spectacular highlight amongst highlights. Evie tossed KLR back first to the canvas. She ascended to the top rope as Heidi climbed to the second. It was time for the Rocket Launcher. Evie crashed down with Coup-de-Evie and Heidi connected with the frog splash. Our Captain covered KLR to score Team Slap Happy the hard earned victory.
Heidi and Evie opened the ropes for their opponents, welcoming them into the ring to celebrate the art they had just created. Mia and KLR took them up on their offer and all four women raised each others' arms. All four women took a bow to acknowledge the crowd's applause and appreciation. Evie and Heidi made sure to give the crowd a five second pose in the aisle doing their signature hand slaps before disappearing behind the curtain, They had to rest up because they had more matches to compete in over the next two days.
