June 1, 2021. Capitol Wrestling Center. Orlando, Florida. WWE NXT. Ember Moon used her tag team partner Shotzi's injury to her own advantage, hoping to ensnare a title match. Shotzi had gotten a boo boo during competitive competition against Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez. Moon raged her way to the ring and demanded a fight with Raquel. The champion had to be held back by NXT General Manager William Regal and D'Angelo Security. Dakota wasn't so she granted Ember the fight she wanted, smashing her in the face with a kick that flung her to the floor.

Before I continue, I want to take a moment to acknowledge D'Angelo Security. Yes, that is the future Don of NXT working his way up through the family business as part of their security firm alongside the humble beginnings of none other than Trick Williams. It's no surprise those two hit it off so well with a bit of a thing upon becoming members of the NXT roster later in 2021.

Ember Moon would get her shot at the NXT Women's Championship against Gonzalez. The match was set for NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2021. Before Moon faced Raquel, she would have to get by Dakota Kai when they battled in the main event of the June 8, 2021 episode of NXT. On their way to the ring, Kai & Gonzalez crossed paths with Io Shirai and singer Poppy. The staredown between Raquel and the woman she defeated to win the title harkened back unhappy memories for Our Captain who rightfully felt that title match should have been hers.

Dakota brought the fight to Moon, unleashing not one but two running face washes on Ember. The Kaio-Kick failed to finish off Moon who mounted a comeback, setting Kai up for her finishing move The Eclipse. Raquel put a stop to it, smashing Moon off the ropes with a big boot costing Kai the match and giving Ember the win by disqualification. Moon fought off an attack, sending Dakota to the floor. In a powerful message that cast a dark cloud over the future of Raquel's title reign, Moon ascended to the top rope and struck her unconscious with The Eclipse.

Raquel Gonzalez arrived at the Capitol Wrestling Center on June 13, 2021 as the NXT Women's Champion and left WWE NXT In Your House 2021 with the gold in tact. Moon did hit The Eclipse but Dakota assisted Raquel's foot over the rope where it was headed anyway to break up the pin. Shotzi re-emerged from sucking her food through a straw, harassing Dakota away from the ringside area. Even though Raquel defeated Ember, the issues between Gonzalez & Kai and Ember & Shotzi were far from over.
