February 1, 2022. NXT. During an encounter with the returning Sarray, Dakota kindly noted that Sarray's relationship with her grandmother and necklace she gave her was important to the Warrior of the Sun. But the tone quickly gloomed. Dakota continued: "No matter how strong a relationship is" ... Suddenly she tried to resist ... "No don't say it. Don't say it. Just tell..." But unfortunately she again succumbed to her insanity ... "the sun always sets on it." Our Captain at least tried to resist a bit unlike when she said similar to MSK, Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon. Baby steps.

One week later on NXT February 8, 2022 Sarray and Dakota Kai would face each other for the second time in NXT. Their first match on August 10, 2021 saw Kai pick up a pinfall victory over Sarray. Before the match, Dakota gave wise, though unsolicited advice to resident narcoleptic Wendy Choo who had just lost a match. "You might have a new wardrobe. But all these clothes...they won't buy you victories in the ring."

Dakota would proceed to the ring to face the Warrior of the Sun, managing to calm her mental demons en route. Sadly, during the match Dakota would again be frustrated by said demons. Not even a breathing exercise could successfully get her focused. She would be pinned by Sarray after being pulverized by the Sunray Dropkick and sleeper suplex The sun had figuratively set on the once noble and mighty Afakasi Warrior Princess.

Distressed from yet another defeat, Dakota would again encounter Wendy in the backstage area. Choo opted to rub salt in the wound, telling Kai that winning isn't as easy as it looks. The ill-tempered Kai showed a surprising restraint not unleashing her rage on Wendy -- instead she finally had that pivotal moment of realization. "What's wrong with me? I don't know. I don't know."
