Nixon Newell vs. Alex Windsor at Progress Chapter 35

Nixon Newell made her Progress Wrestling debut in August 2016 at the famed Electric Ballroom against a familiar opponent in Alex Windsor. They had fought in singles and tag matches around the UK during the previous months. The young Windsor had already been a veteran of the British wrestling scene for over six years. Like Nixon in the future, she would suffer setbacks due to legitimate injury. Alex would come out first for their match, flipping off the fans. In contrast, Nixon was overjoyed to interact with the crowd who sung and clapped along with her to her theme music Cest La Vie.

The crowd chanted: "Nixon! Nixon Fucking Newell!" to welcome the popular wrestler to the promotion. Alex and Nixon grappled on the canvas to begin. Nixon tried to score a pin early with a jackknife cover but Alex bridged out trying to get a backslide that Nixon countered into one of her own for a two count. Alex countered Nixon's running huracarrana into a backbreaker. She followed with a snapmare and kick to the back. Alex's one legged dropkick to the head nearly slid Nixon's a few inches off.

Nixon fired out of the corner with a shotgun dropkick followed by two running forearms. On the third Alex evaded. Nixon slipped through the ropes to the apron where she cracked the side of Alex's head with an enziguri. Alex was struck down with a crossbody off the top rope but firmly kicked out at two. Nixon followed with the Shiniest Wizard but Alex rolled to the outside before she could go for a pin. Not willing to let up, Nixon attempted a tope between the ropes only to be cut off by a right hand from Alex.

Alex pulled Nixon to the floor and Irish whipped her at the ring post, however Nixon reversed course instead sending Alex into it. Nixon followed that with a running PK from the apron. She went for a second only to get tripped back first onto the apron by Alex. Windsor rolled Nixon back in the ring but before she could follow, Nixon dived through the ropes hitting her with a tope. Alex fought back planting Nixon face first on the ringside floor with a springboard DDT using the turnbuckle post for leverage.

Nixon and Alex had a violent forearm exchange upon reentering the ring, knocking the wind out of both for a bit. Newell came to it first smacking Alex with a headbutt. Alex took control with a sliding PK to Nixon's head but was unable to stay in control, getting cracked in the head by a roundhouse kick. Nixon hooked Alex's arms for a tiger suplex but Alex headbutted her way free.

Alex tried to apply the sharpshooter but Nixon kicked her off, immediately connecting with another roundhouse kick to the head. Nixon was able to hit the tiger suplex with a bridge on her second attempt. The referee struck the canvas three times and Nixon scored a pinfall victory. Nixon celebrated her Progress debut to the delight of the impressed crowd. One person who wasn't impressed with Nixon though was Progress women's division "leader" Jinny who was doing guest commentary.
