October 3, 2023. Orlando Florida. NXT at WWE Performance Center. Lyra Valkyria secured herself a future title match against the NXT Women's Champion whom is presently Becky Lynch. The commentary and competitors made it seem like said match was set in stone. The Welsh Dragon Tegan Nox said hell no to that with her mere presence. Becky Lynch will have to slay a starving dragon in search of gold before she settles in to battle Valkyria.
October 9, 2023. Omaha, Nebraska. CHI Health Center. Monday Night RAW. Tegan Nox had her NXT Women's Championship Match against fighting champion Becky Lynch. Prior to it, The Welsh Dragon stated this match was about showing the world who the hell Tegan Nox is. Natalya stopped on by to give Tegan some words of encouragement and a hug. Her respectful behavior seems genuine but the jury over here is still out on Natalya. Tegan received all the trimmings of a world title fight getting the big match, dimmed lights ring introduction.
The bell rang and they locked up. Lynch went for a cradle but Nox reversed it into a roll-up to a roll, going for a PK that Becky barely leapt away from. Lynch came at Nox who swept her on her back, falling onto her for a pin. The Man slipped out straight up to her feet. Becky took a moment to shake a finger nope, her gesturing getting her rolled up. Lynch reversed it into one of her own but Nox kicked out. Lynch grabbed Nox in position for a suplex, however Tegan countered into a backslide. Becky reversed it, back-to-back powering Nox and her up to their feet.
Becky rolled Nox up with an inside cradle which Tegan reversed into one of her own. Lynch kicked out. The two traded some pin attempts and armdrags. Everything The Man tried, The Dragon had an answer for. Lynch teased going for a test of strength only to kick Nox in the gut. Tegan got taken for a tour of all four corners, head smashed into each top turnbuckle. Nox reverse whipped Becky to the opposite corner. Becky evaded Nox's charge and went for her springboard second rope kick which Nox caught, following it with a kick to the injured arm.
Nox took Lynch on her own trip, smashing her head into three of the top turnbuckles. Tegan kept up the aggression, hitting Lynch in the corner with two charging uppercuts. Snapmare takedown. Charging basement uppercut to the back. Becky fought back, sending Nox to the apron. Lynch climbed to the second rope for the guillotine legdrop. Nox moved out of the way then snapped Becky's throat across the top rope. Becky cut off Nox as she climbed to the top, hitting her this time with the springboard second rope kick that crashed Nox hard to the apron and floor.
Becky slid Nox stomach first to the barrier with a baseball slide dropkick. Nox caught Lynch off the flying forearm from the apron, sending her stomach first into the barrier. Becky's head nearly got whacked off by Nox's charging PK from the apron. Becky staggered silly from that, crashed to the floor by the Tegan Tumbleweed off the apron. Nox rolled Becky back into the ring, going straight for a pin. Lynch kicked out much to Tegan's frustration. The action continued with Lynch soon taking over with a corner splash forearm and Bexploder.
Nox got tossed between the ropes to the apron. Lynch struck her with the forearm and uppercut but Nox caught the kick and flung Lynch front to canvas. Nox climbed to the top rope, landing on Lynch with a crossbody into a pin for two. Tegan charged for The Shiniest Wizard. Lynch evaded, grabbing Tegan for a roll-up and two. Becky took Nox to the canvas with a gutwrench suplex into the Dis-Arm-Her. Nox blocked it, snapping Becky back-of-skull first into the second turnbuckle. Becky slumped down into the corner, prone to the Canonboar and cover for two.
Becky caught Nox's corner charge, backdropping her to the apron. Nox hung on and waffled Lynch's head with a swinging kick that had serious smack to it. Becky cut Nox off at the top and came up for a superplex. Nox slipped under her, hanging Becky in the tree of woe with an uppercut to the back. Lynch dangled, no way free until Nox freed her the hard way with another Canonboar. Nox went for a cover. Becky kicked out at two, however Nox grabbed her arm and applied an armbar of her own. Becky rolled through, pressing down Nox in a pin for two.
Nox countered The Manhandle Slam by tossing Lynch face first to the corner. Lynch caught Tegan with a back elbow. Becky took to the apron, catching Nox's head between the ropes with a kick. Nox staggered into Becky's own swinging kick to the head. Becky came off the top rope with a missile dropkick for two. Lynch was ready to end this but Nox still had fight in her, whipping Becky to the ropes and catching her with a fallaway slam into a bridging pin for two. Tegan is digging deep into her arsenal for this one like you would expect against The Man.
Lynch evaded Nox's leap off the second rope, grabbing her for The Manhandle Slam. Once again Nox countered it, this time with a crucifix. Lynch kicked out at two and grabbed Nox's arm trying to lock in the Dis-Arm-Her. Nox blocked it again, reversing it into a roll-up. Becky kicked out at two right into a grasp of the arm, this time successfully locking in the Dis-Arm-Her.
Tegan's heart was still in the fight but her body was drenched in pain. Even a dragon has her limits. So, Nox regretfully had to tap giving Becky title retention by submission. Lynch knew she was in a fight to the end but that is exactly what she wanted. The Man showed her spirited opponent well-earned respect, reaching her hand out for an accepted clasp and fist bump.
Nox was understandably distressed about her loss when Natalya approached her backstage to tell her she was amazing. Nox shouted back she wasn't because she lost again, even saying that maybe she shouldn't be here. Kayden Carter and Katana Chance joined in. Chance told Nox she killed it against Becky. Unfortunately, WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Piper Niven crashed what Green called a pity party for Nox. Niven, Green and Natalya had words setting up Natalya vs. Piper on the October 16, 2023 Season Premiere of Monday Night RAW.
Even though she lost, Tegan Nox fought her heart out. She had an answer to virtually everything Becky tossed at her, including blocking the Dis-Arm-Her twice. In the end, perhaps it was only exhaust that felled The Welsh Dragon. Another wind and she might have scored the championship victory. Many of us knew who the hell Tegan Nox is going into this match. Now, the rest of the world knows who Tegan Nox is.
